Frequently Asked Questions
01
How much headroom do I need?
Minimum of 27" for our standard doors, however our custom options can accommodate for less headroom.
03
What specs will we need from the homeowner for a custom door?
-
Size of current door; or size of opening (height and width)
-
Headroom (measured from the top of door frame to the ceiling/ first obstruction)
05
What is your R-Value? Why does it matter?
All Talboys Doors panels are fully insulated with an R-value of R-14. R-value is the measure of how well your barrier resists the flow of heat. A higher R-value means you’ll have greater insulation performance in your garage. The average R value of residential garage doors typically ranges from 6-12. Insulation comes standard in all of our premium doors, at no additional cost.
08
How thick are the panels?
2"
09
What type of lift spring do you recommend?
The spring is the most critical part of the assembly. It must be correctly matched to the weight of the door. Your installer is in the best position to recommend the best lift spring for your door. We highly recommend new spring(s) on any new garage door installation.
11
How much does installation usually cost?
You need to contact your local installer to get a quote. We do not provide installation services, however we would be happy to work with your preferred installer to help make the installation process seamless.
13
Can I install the door myself?
No, we do not recommend this since the installation is different from a traditional garage door on the market.
02
Not seeing the size you need?
Since single car and double car garage door sizes often vary, we can accommodate your unique dimensions. For further information regarding custom sizing, please contact us directly.
04
What’s the paint finish?
Our doors are finished in powder coating, which is done through a thermal bonding process. This creates a uniform, durable finish that is more resistant to chipping and corrosion.
06
Are your doors weatherstripped?
Yes, we have weatherseal between all of the panels and on the bottom panel. This is standard on all of our doors.
07
What are the benefits of your all-aluminum garage door?
Aluminum is the superior choice to steel, as it’s lighter in weight and resistant to corrosion. We’ve also made the skins of our panels twice as thick as the industry standard, reducing noise transfer and making them more robust to reduce likelihood of denting. This means you’ll save on maintenance costs over time.
10
Are rollers and tracks included? If so, what kind?
Yes. We use premium, nylon rollers versus steel or hard plastic. Nylon rollers are preferred for a smoother and quieter glide. We include standard 2” tracks, cut to our unique size for space optimization.
12
What garage door opener do you recommend and why?
Our door requires a side wall mount garage door opener (also known as a jackshaft opener) to accomplish the space-saving features as it must attach directly to the torsion bar. The benefit of the side mounted opener is that it’s much easier and faster to install than an overhead opener. Your installer will be in the best position to recommend a model for your needs and space.
